Open Question: I need to upgrade my laptop. What would be the best things to do?

I have a dell inspiron 1100. I bought a wireless adaptor from dell and that is allowing me to connect to the internet. Currently this laptop has a Intel Celeron 4 Processor that runs at 2.0GHz. I want to upgrade to the duel core processor that is found in the the Dell Inspiron 15. How do I do this and about how much does it cost? Also, I am trying to download skype and itunes to the laptop but it is telling me that I need to upgrade my windows operating system. How do I do this? How much would it cost? And what should I upgrade to? This computer is super slow but I do not have enough money to buy a whole new one while I am going to nursing school. If you were me (a student on a budget) what would you do to this laptop?
