Ok so this might be a little long, but I would really appreciate any help.....I will def. award BA for any input. (I'm running windows xp, sp3) So I have a 130GB SATA hard drive that is almost filled. I just got a 300GB SATA to replace it, and am now looking to transfer the old hard drive's contents to the new one. So far, I've used Driveimage XML to make a MIRROR copy of the old one onto the new one.....it worked more or less (it always seems to have some corrupt files when finished) But, after I run CHKDSK it seems fine, and it's 100% like the old one and of course...it's Bootable. The problem is, all my files reference my C: drive. When I copy the stuff to the new hard drive, which is F:, they always reference the old one (because it's C:) I have tried renaming the drives (swapping the drive letters) but it won't let me do it while I"m booted into the C: because that is contains my system files, and is just won't allow it. When I boot into the other hard drive (F:) and try to change it, it won't let me because it says the C: drive is a paging file. I've tried FORCING the rename with EASUS Partition Master, but all it achieved was corrupting the logon for my new hard drive.....which I then had to RE-DO again. So here's my question, what is the best way to mirror copy my stuff without getting these corrupt files? (or should I just keep using DriveImage XML and just run CHKDSK) AND more importantly, HOW can I get my new hard drive to be C: and change to old one FROM C: to something else? PS I have an external, and I copied everything verbatim over to it to try and make it bootable, but for some reason, while it has all the same files, it's not bootable. All I get is a "missing operating system" when I try to boot from it. Any help here? ps For many reasons, I CANNOT just reinstall everything fresh on the new hard drive. It MUST be a mirror copy of the old one. thank you thank you thank you for any help!!... Read More »
